So What's Next? Where do I Sign Up?

August 4, 2014

Top two questions from our followers so far:  "What's next?"  And "Where do I sign up to get involved?".  Taking them in turn:

What's Next?  Aka the Current Status

As of today, the current status is essentially "application pending".  Ie what has happened is the JV partners have delivered the application - probably an actual truckload of documents - to the Boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets.  The planning authorities in each borough will need to validate the application as complete, meeting their requirements, etc.  This makes sense as there's no point launching a time-consuming and expensive public consultation process, or even reviewing the application, if it's only half-filled out.  This process could take anywhere from weeks to (in our experience) months.

After the application is validated, it will be published and the public consultation will begin.  We'll have lots to say based on the final details of what was submitted.

Where do I Sign Up to Get Involved?

We've launched our campaign to Make the Goodsyard Great based on the final master plans which were shared during a pre-consultation process.  So we know what's in the application.  Once that happens, look for our public campaign to make your voice heard.  We'll contact you with details of our petitions, our actions and our events.  And at that point your voice will be loudly and publicly heard.

In the meantime, if you want to get involved, please contact us via our "Contacts" page.

I found a very interesting article it the Guardian about changes in City planning.

It looks like we urgently need to get hold of the viability study and make a freedom of information request to both councils to understand what benefits they are hoping to get under the Section 106 requirements.

Also to prevent the Mayor wading in, we should be loud and very public in our communication to embarrass him from taking action. As he hopes to stand as an MP riding rough shod over voters wishes is not something he would want to be labelled with this year.

A useful, if depressing article, I now feel sorry for the councils planning department !

A thought for you.
These projects always gain a nick name, which helps the media to endear it to their readers.

How about we name this project "the great wall of China"

It encompasses the wall of glass, separation from the city and the overseas investor angle all into a neat media friendly headline.

Over to you :-)
